Being right hand person to iconic NZ fashion designer Keith Matheson for over 12 years, gave her the ideal background and opportunity to realise a long held dream - to open her own niche retail fashion store.

Once it became clear that Keith Matheson was to close his doors for the last time in March of this year, Jenny kept a keen eye out for the best location to start her business, JENNIFER JOHNS. She finally decided on a location in the heart of Auckland’s blossoming fashion boulevard, Osborne Street, Newmarket.

JOHN SMEDLEY has been making textiles in the Lea Valley of Derbyshire, UK since 1784 and combines the finest materials, traditional hand skills and the latest technology. JOHN SMEDLEY goes to great lengths to source the finest merino wool from Zque accredited sheep stations in NZ’s Southern Alps. Zque accreditation ensures sustainable and ethical practices with full traceability from garment to grower.

Jenny recognised that it was extremely important to compliment the JOHN SMEDLEY range with top quality NZ made garments for men and women and tailored trousers and skirts made under the JENNIFER JOHNS label. “I want to support local content and manufacture wherever possible” says Jenny. She is working with past colleagues to achieve the high quality and standard required.
