grandfather_1.JPG'The transition to midlife can be a challenging one, fraught with physical, relational, professional and psychological changes.  Questions of personal identity often arise at this time, forcing us to reassess all of the beliefs that seemed to hold true during the first half of our lives.'  This was written by way of explanation for a book called Awakening at Midlife by psychotherapist Kathleen Brehony.  However, Kathleen heralds this time as "offering unparallelled opportunities for a rich, meaningful second half of life."

health -prostate
Hi all
Just been reading a great post by a lady called Kay in the women's forum who had some great advice learned from experience on how differently men deal with prostate cancer and how to live normally after being diagnosed. It has always scared the .....out of me so I get checked. Anyway, her words were reassuring - Kay says
Prostate cancer isn't the death sentence that the word "cancer" tends to convey, as I discovered. Most guys were OK for years later except for the very few who had a rapidly growing cancer that tended to spread. Some side effects were distressing, but again the guys who just dealt with them and lived their lives fared better than the ones who got dissatisfied and depressed. So to the partners of sick men I'd say- try to look after yourselves first and encourage your men to get on with life or have some counseling quick smart!
thanks Kay

Prostate Matters
Well this is a breath of fresh air. Congratulations to the founders of this site.
I have often wondered about prostate cancer, and wonder how one knows if it is a definite threat. My Doctor does the usual internal investigation and says it's ok, however the waterworks are quite slow, and have been for about 15 years with no other adverse affects. My inclination is to ignore the matter. Any comments?

Health - Prostate
Hi Owen,
Just read your thread about Men's Health. I think I am more concerned about my bloke's health than he is! anyway, I bought him a book called Healthy Bastards by Dr. Dave Baldwin. Dave is a New Zealand doctor based in bulls and was interviewed by Jim Mora on the National Programme one afternoon. I bought his book for my old boy and he really enjoyed. Very funny evidently and full of good, sound advice. There is a review of it on the site under Living and Going Places/Great Reads. Have a look and you can see what it is about. Dave sounds like a good down to earth bloke and evidently gives some very good advice, especially about your private bits.
Best wishes

waterworks - men
Hi Owen
Just read your post and thought I would comment on your slow waterworks issue. My partners waterworks was also on the slow side and sometimes it took a while for him to get the flow going. He ended up having an operation which he fondly calls a "re-bore". Funny as that sounds thats exactly what it was. They basically clear out your urinary tract. He was in hospital for only one night and came home the next day. He had to wear a catheter for a couple of days but apart from that he said the op was no problem. His doctor advised him that sometimes the op does have to be repeated in some men but he was lucky that it worked first time. He was really pleased with the result and called himself a human water blaster for a few weeks until we got sick of hearing it hahaha. You can go through the public health system for this op but there is a waiting list. He decided to go private and it cost $3500 but he declares it was money well spent. Not sure if this is of any help to you or not but it may be and also to anyone else who reads this forum.

Prostate problems
Guys need to take a nutritional supplement like saw palmetto with lycopene and soy isoflavones to support the overall health of male physiology.

I would also suggest a broad-spectrum high-quality mega antioxidant and multi mineral. Sure would help to make you perky! :-)

Let me know if you want products like that.

Cheers,
Helen
