What does our Health System do to Old People?
My mother is 94 and still lives alone with wonderful support from Healthcare Services, who come in three times a day to shower her, give her the right pills and serve her meals. My sister-in-law, who deserves sainthood, prepares all Mum's meals and freezes them in single portions so the caregivers only have to microwave them and serve them to Mum. She does this so Mum can retain her independence and stay in her own home.
However, Mum tripped over earlier this week and was admitted to hospital. This is the third time in the last 18 months that she has fallen and hurt herself and ended up in hospital.

No matter how much I exercise I seem to be losing the "battle of the bulge". Having always had a flat tummy I find it quite disconcerting to find my waist thickening as I get older. So was very interested in the findings in this article.

If you love a story which has in its arms myth, fairytale, legend, iconic picture book, adult and childhood classics, read this book. If you have a family member who is different from the people in other families you know, read this book. I read this wonderful book by one of our best New Zealand authors, a while ago and found it on the bookcase when looking for something to lend a friend to read over Easter. If you haven't read it yet, do. I especially loved the Fat Controller! Read more.....
