Wisanow has partnered with the House of Travel, Parnell to provide readers with the latest offerings and information on travel within New Zealand and around the world.
In the light of our recent survey, What Makes Women Feel Good', it was discovered that 63% of respondents chose travel as their number one most anticipated and rewarding activity.
We, at wisanow, can appreciate this sentiment as the anticipation and planning of a trip is only part of the experience. The daily happenings on a well planned trip and the post trip memories add to the fulfillment of a life well lived.
But, where to start. How do you find travelling companions and where to start with your travel plans. On these pages we aim to bring you ideas, with the House of Travel Team's help, for your next trip.
From time to time,House of Travel, Parnell will be offering travel experiences to groups of like minded women to specific events as we did in July when a group had lots of fun and laughter joining up to fly to Melbourne to visit the great show 'Jersey Boys'. We will detail these smaller group trips from time to time by offering them to Platinum Members first as they arise. Our regular newsletter will also details travel happenings and information as they are published by the HOT, Parnell team.

Q Hard style cases which of course look gorgeous v soft type? Flying to and travelling within Europe. Do want to start with something lightish before adding contents? A Thank you for your question with regards to what type of case to travel with. This is actually a very hard question to answer as I think we all have our own likes and dislikes here. My experience is that I had a trusty old soft case for many years until finally the wheels and zips became worn – but had definitely completed its role. I then decided to go for the Hard / Flexi cover model, only then to find on my first trip with it to Malaysia it had split diagonally across the top. I have now gone back to a soft case. Actually think you can fit more in and you have some movement in the case and often an extra zip that can extend and give a good couple of extra inches... Enjoy Europe ! Q How should I pack before my flight? A There are different restriction on what you can pack in your carry-ons vs. your checked baggage. All of your baggage will be screened and possibly hand-searched as part of the new security measures. Q My husband recently found an article about Crete in a magazine that suggested traveling there in the off season was a brilliant idea...still warm, much much cheaper and less crowded. What do you think? Was this article written by a nutter or in your experience is this a good idea.? We would like to spend a week in Prague early Dec as I believe its beautiful (if not freezing) Xmas with our daughter in London and then find somewhere warm and different to spend a few weeks with friends who live in Ireland..
A Spoke to my expert and he said January was actually really cold in Crete and I also found this article to back it up so might be a bit cold for you – this is a great time to visit Egypt – not too hot – I have a client there at the moment and she was telling me how quiet and peaceful it was… Or I went to Oman last November and loved it !! Was absolutely gorgeous and peaceful and clean – you can go to the beach or you can go into the desert or you can see giant turtles – amazing !!!!
January and February - This is the real winter time. The weather can be cold and rainy, the deserted towns and villages often melancholic but sometimes a little depressing. But when the sun comes out all is forgotten and you can enjoy stupendous views of the snowy mountains (there is at times over 3m of snow on them). This is also the time where flowers start to grow, almond trees blossom in January, anemones are plentiful and the citrus trees are full of fruit. You might find it difficult to get food and lodging in tourist resorts but will have no problems in the cities. If you come to Crete for culture and essentially want to spend time in the museums, visit archaeological sites and churches, it is not at all a bad time. Winter is almost the only time of the year when you can visit Knossos and the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion without having to jostle with crowds. Although Crete can be cold, it never gets as cold as in northern Europe: the lowest temperature measured in Heraklion was -0,1°C (in 1928).
