Cindy, Jamie and Max

As if being a victim of Blue Chip, consequently having to leave a lovely home and live in tiny one and a half bedroom unit in a less desirable area wasn’t enough, six months down the track our much loved Bichon Frise Jamie died from a disease of the liver. He was twelve.

cindyjamie_1.JPGJamie was a beautiful specimen of the breed but a bit of a delinquent. He couldn’t be be trusted not to nip people, particularly men. He was a barker too, many times I threatened to have him debarked but couldn’t bring myself to carry out the threat.

Our remaining Bichon Cindy followed Jamie over the Rainbow Bridge five months later. She had a seizure one evening, we took her to the vet immediately who diagnosed a bleed in the brain and euthanased her. It was a horrible experience, he couldn’t find a vein, it took about 15 minutes for the deed to be completed.

My husband decreed ‘No more pets’. This was sensible at our age, he in his early eighties and I’m seventy four.

During the following three months, I thought I could hear and see those dogs even though their beds and toys had been washed and put away. Husband reminding me ‘No more’when I said I’d seen cute puppies in the pet shop or on Trademe. Eventually he gave in, fed up with my dripping tap technique no doubt.

max4_1.JPGMax was eighteen months and in need of a new home, a white Toy Poodle, skinny as a rake with a slight roach back and a poor coat. He settled in with us from the first night, he’s attached to me with an invisible thread! We can’t go out unless we take him along, howls and barks all time if left alone……the neighbours have told us!

His diet had been raw chicken necks only, we gradually improved on this, giving him a beaten egg in goats milk once a week and a decent balanced diet in general.

His coat has improved no end but he’s still skinny, it must be his natural build, lucky him!

We love him to bits and life is a joy again in spite of being financially strapped.
