Sprucing up your Home for WinterSprucing up your Home for Winterby Ann Foster, Design for Living Interior Design ![]() After our glorious summer it is now time to think about the colder months ahead. Changing the position of your furniture can be a good start. Seating which is more closely together gives the room a more cosy feel, especially when next to a fireplace. Try using large throw rugs underneath the furniture, this helps to create a feeling of warmth to the room, these come in all shapes and sizes. Using a rug can also help define the space in a large room. Introduce layers to your home just as you would dress yourself. Add texture through extra cushions, throws and accessories. You might want to add or change your curtains for extra warmth, just as they do in the northern hemisphere. Lighting for the winter months is key. Add some floor or table lamps instead of the main lighting to create ambience. Candles are huge at the moment, and we all know how special they can make us feel. Try some of the gorgeous scented candles, as this awakes our other senses.Colour can make the biggest difference in how we feel in a space and can create a visual feeling of warmth. Try using warm tones with splashes of red, orange or warm yellows. These colours can work extremely well with existing neutrals. Start slowly and experiment by adding cushions, throws, flowers or artwork. If you are feeling really brave why not have a feature wall or maybe some fabulous velvet drapes. Now pour a glass of mulled wine and ENJOY!! |
