Who will you Surprise on Valentines Day?

Who will you Surprise on Valentine's Day?

Valentines Day Roses
I'm not really into Valentine's Day as I believe it has become too commercialised.  That's not to say I would refuse 12 red roses from an admirer, but at $300 a bunch this year, I would think he either had rocks in his head, was trying very hard to impress me or maybe needed to get back into my good books.   However, it is a day to say "I love you" to loved ones and you don't have to break the bank with a gift.  Many years ago I gave each of my children a Valentines Card, which I loved doing but they probably were very disappointed that it came from "Mum".  I just wanted to let them know I loved them and it seemed a good idea at the time. Other years I have baked for my love, Ken, taken him to breakfast and one year we even had a bottle of wine and fish and chips on the beach.  Very romantic and I got lots of brownie points.  After all, its the thought that counts, isn't it?

One of our favourite websites, Single Suddenly, posted the following blog

Why Not this Valentines Day?

There are so many types of love and wonderful people in life. This Valentine’s Day why not make it a day to remember everyone we care about or appreciate. A day to be creative and warm to not only loved ones, but also to those special individuals that do nice things we love.

If someone wonderful makes your days richer, fuller or happier why not show your appreciation? Let’s shine a light on all those who bestow good deeds and add interesting moments to our daily life. Here’s our quick list of ways to acknowledge more on Valentine’s Day:

• Your coworker who makes excellent coffee every morning

• A neighbor that consistently goes out of their way to make your neighborhood a better place

• That humorous customer that always lightens your day with jokes or stories

• A teacher that dedicates many more hours then their profession could ever require

• Your grocery guy that lets you know when you favorite fruit is in or selects a great cut of meat every time you ask

• That special child who last summer picked a handful of wildflowers and delivered them to your front door.

• A stranger with a smile that just uplifted your day or brought back a treasured memory

Rae and I thought this article was great and thought provoking.  Valentines Day doesn't have to be about showering your loved one with expensive gifts. It's about telling those you care about that you are thinking about them.  So what are you going to do on Tuesday to let someone know you appreciate them?
