The good Oil

The Good Oil

Moroccan Oil is one of the year's most talked about products but is it the one for your hair?

moroccan_oil.jpgEvery year there is one product that is universally adored, praised and used and the golden girl of 2010 emerged some months ago. It's Moroccan Oil. You love it, celebrities and stylists love it and women around the world are happy to pay the equivalent of $50 for a hair care product and rave about it.  It sound expensive but it lasts for at least 6 months as you only need a tiny amount.

But, until recently, I didn't get it. I'd tried bits and pieces of the range - the restorative hair mask, the glimmer shine spray - but they didn't do for my fine but plentiful hair what they seemed to be doing for the rest of the world. The hero ingredient, argan oil (described as a ''miracle'' oil from, you guessed it, Morocco) has been declared a ''cult'' ingredient from the US to the Middle East, and although an oil, the publicity blurbs assured me that it was lightweight and suitable for all hair types. But, as it turned out, not my type of hair. I felt like I was being left out of the party (or secretly the only one to know the party was a farce).

Then Moroccan Oil Light, the latest addition to the range, landed in my pigeonhole and I've joined the gang. It's great. Horses for courses etcetera etcetera never applies more in beauty than to hair products. Which ones work for you? What's proven a godsend against the odds? We all like a good discussion on hair - here's your chance to rave about what works for you (Moroccan Oil? Flex? Johnson&Johnson?) and what doesn't. Tick for Moroccan Oil Light but I can't go past Redken styling products, Aveda shampoos and KMS conditioners...

Wow! I have finally got hold of Moroccanoil light and very impressed with the result. Also while buying that I purchased Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream and have used both products for the first time today with a-m-a-z-i-n-g results. I had trouble finding somewhere in NZ who stocked this range and who had the light oil so went on the internet and ordered through Leon Brant in Australia who had the full range and what a range it is. Customer Service was fantastic, ordered on 2nd and received on 8th with a postage cost of around $8. Can't ask for better than that. Thanks Wisanow and Leon Brant :-)

Actually, I usually put it on my wet hair after washing and applying mousse but have also just used the Moroccan Oil by itself. Sometimes I put it on after I dry my hair too. If you do this only use a very small amount though, you can always add more but can't take it out if you put too much in. My hair is fine so I need the other product to give my hair body when it gets a bit longer.

After shampooing and conditioning do you use it before you add any other products ie mousse and sea spray? Thanks in advance

Hi Vicki
My hairdresser stocks it. Bettjemans in Coates Avenue Orakei and also Servilles stock it as well. Have just done a google search and there are lots of online places too, but be careful that they are genuine before you purchase.
Good luck and let us know how you get on

I couldn't agree more! I was very skeptical at spending $60 for a 100ml bottle of oil for my thinning, coloured for 40 yrs, hair but weakened and have never looked back! What a fantastic product! I don't pour any out, just put my hand over the top, tip it up 3 times and rub hands together before passing through and over towel dried hair - result = shine and manageability like never before and lasts forever! They now sell little trial size bottles so do give it a go.
