Eating Battles Blog and Free E-book on Binge Eating

Shirley_Billson.JPGShirley Billson is a Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist who specialises in eating disorders in women.  Shirley says "I actually got interested in the whole eating thing a few years back when I was having a meal with a group of newly found single friends (following divorce). All were vibrant, fabulous women in their 30s and 40s and three out of four of them confessed to some kind of eating related disorder (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating). I was astonished at how prevalent this was - and I see it every week in my clinic. On the outside, women who seem 'sorted', confident, lively, fun - are often struggling with demons on a daily basis that take on the form of food related anxiety".

Been there, done that. Emotional turmoil created the problem, but over time (and it was quite a long time) I found a path out of it. The only way I got control over binge eating was to substitute healthy foods for unhealthier choices. I still binged now and then, but instead of being overcome with guilt, thinking the whole week was ruined so scoffing my way through the rest of it, I just taught myself to feel that I shouldnt have done that but at least I got extra portions of vitamins, minerals and fibre. As the guilt response decreased I was able to curb the binge response alot quicker and get back to a healthier eating pattern.
Its a hard road on your own, but at least now there is more support and understanding available.
