Enhancing Midlife - by Geraldine
The best thing about creating this website with my best friend, Rae, is that it has given me a forum to share my love of books, movies, cooking and travel. As I travel through midlife and now the family are living independent lives, I have time to indulge myself and immerse myself in my passions and hobbies. We baby boomers have broken all the rules; we burned our bras, embraced womens lib, became superwomen and forgot the most important thing along the way - to look after ourselves. So now is the time for us to read those books, see those movies, indulge our love of travel, spend time in the kitchen, maybe walk the New York marathon or knit kitten blankets for the RSPCA, if that's what we want to do.
If I read a book, see a movie, try a new recipe, see a fun video or website, I will share it with you and hope you get as much out of it as I do.

Decluttering my life
I was driving across town the other day and heard an interview on the radio about decluttering your life. Unfortunately, I got to my destination before the interview ended so missed some of it, but it has stuck in my mind ever since.
Yes, I do admit to being a hoarder and yes I do still have favourite books and toys my children loved and yes my youngest is 25 and yes they don’t want them, but I just can’t quite bring myself to throw them away. So they are packed away in a box and never looked at.
I think this hoarding thing started with my mother (doesn’t everything?). Anyway, when I was 4 year old I contracted a very bad case of Chicken Pox and my father decided to cheer me up by buying me a Walkie Talkie doll. We had no money and I don’t know what he had to sacrifice to get it for me. I was so excited when he gave it to me. Thought I was the bees knees. However, this is where the problem with my mother started. I also had a much loved doll called Mary Lou who had had a very rough life and she was held together with sellotape plastered over her numerous cuts to stop the kapok stuffing coming out of her. I played with my brand new doll all day, but when it was time to go to bed there was no Mary Lou! I was devastated. Mum in her infinite wisdom (not a hoarder obviously) had thrown her out in the rubbish. Poor Mum, I don’t think I ever forgave her!
I finally gave up the Walkie Talkie doll 30 years later to my cleaner’s daughter who didn’t have a doll but I have to admit there have been times when I regretted doing that too!
Anyway, back to decluttering. more.....
