Saint Clair Vineyard Half Marathon January update

Hello everyone

Congratulations to those who have entered the Saint Clair Vineyard Half Marathon which is on May 12, 2012 and I hope your training has kicked off with energy and enthusiasm. If it is anything like mine, then you will still be feeling the effects of Christmas and New Year and it might be a week or 2 before the body is feeling as light as it should be .

We have some very effective training programmes on our website which anyone can use but are especially designed for newer runners. They consist of a 16 week plan which leads right up to Event Day so these programmes are great if you like to train to a schedule. And if you print it and blow it up and put it on the fridge door it will be very hard to ignore! 16 weeks from Event Day is about the middle of January so now is a good time to get started.

For those lucky people who live in Blenheim there is a training series starting on January 24th with a weekly 5km run or walk along the Taylor River. This series will have a social emphasis as well as fitness so will be great for the local runners.

A reminder about the evening function after the race, the Finishing Toast . This will be a fun filled evening for you to celebrate with your fellow participants at the Marlborough Convention Centre. We will have a great band, Saint Clair wine, and a selection of delicious food. We have taken into account the comments from last year that after a 21km race many people feel like sitting down - go figure! - so we will be sure to provide a lot more seating and tables for those who want to rest for 5 minutes before dancing the night away..

Tickets are $10 and includes a free glass of Saint Clair bubbly on arrival with a pay bar and food available after that. Ticket numbers will be limited so we would advise you purchase your ticket before the race as they are likely to be sold out before race day. You can buy these tickets as you enter online or contact us and we will add one to your entry.

For those coming from Wellington for the Saint Clair Vineyard Half Marathon, the Interislander ferry is offering a discount to those who travel by ferry. As plane tickets are already filing up quickly for that weekend the ferry can be a very pleasant way to travel to Marlborough.

For those coming from out of town (and also locals) who might like to see a part of the beautiful Marlborough Sounds while you are here, you might like to consider taking a cruise the day after the race with Marlborough Travel. They are offering Saint Clair Vineyard Half Marathon participants a Sunday Sounds Cruise at a special price of $120 for a full day Sounds cruise on the launch Odyssea, which includes lunch and delicious local Sauvignon Blanc. You can book this trip as you enter online or contact us or Marlborough Travel directly.

So much information.. so little time..

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries about the event or anything else we can possibly help you with and we look forward to seeing you here on May 12!
