How to Stay VisibleHOW TO STAY VISIBLE![]() Stylist Rachel Fanconi has worked with fabulous older women including Helen Mirren, Annie Lennox and Carol Vorderman. Here, she shares her top tips . . . HIT THE SHOPS Every outfit should contain one piece that makes it obvious you have been shopping within the past year. Referencing trends becomes more important as you get older to stop you from looking dated. RECOGNISE YOUR ASSETS If you have a waist, define it. If you have a good neck, show it off. Great legs? Shorter skirts. Elegant hands? Get a manicure. INVEST IN GREAT JEANS You’re never too old to wear jeans. Nothing is more flattering. Whatever your shape, a high-rise, boot-cut, dark denim pair will do the trick. FLIRT WITH YOUR FEET Put a wiggle in your stride with the highest heels you can manage. If stilettos are too much like hard work, try a wedge or a platform. OUT WITH HEIRLOOMS Accessories need constant reappraisal. On the High Street, you can pick up earrings, bracelets, necklaces and cocktail rings to instantly add impact to your look, with little more than pocket change. AGE IS NO BARRIER There is no such thing as segregation on the High Street. If you think you’re too old for Topshop, it’s time to go in. Soak up new ideas, and buy a few statement pieces. BE SPECTACULAR Hiding behind the wrong glasses is never a good look. Keep your frames fashionable and have at least three pairs — everyday, eveningwear and some gorgeous sunglasses. THE RULES OF COLOUR Wear what’s in the shops now, wear the colours that make you smile, wear whatever puts a spring in your step. You’ll know if it doesn’t suit you. HEAD FOR CHANGE It’s all about re-invention. If you’ve been going to the same hairdresser for decades, get out of the rut — allow someone to look at you afresh. HIDDEN ASSETS Go for a bra-fitting to make sure you’re making the most of your shape. A boost in your bust will make you walk tall. |
