Chic at 60

chic_at_60.jpgChic at 60 and is there just one formula?

Researching this question, it appears one author Sherrie Mathieson has cornered the market in what both men and women should wear as they age, in her book Forever Cool: How to Achieve Ageless, Youthful, and Modern Personal Style, for Women and Men.

forever_cool.jpgSherrie says - each year, 75 million baby boomers spend $100 billion on clothes—but you’d never know it to look at them. Alarmed by the fashion faux pas of her fellow fifty-plus peers, style consultant Sherrie Mathieson set out to help them update their personal style yet remain age-appropriate. While her theory is to skip formulas and mix it up, she counsels her boomer brethren to avoid trying too hard (Ladies, what’s worn in Vegas, stays in Vegas; guys, flowered shirts are so Beach Boys).

She presents stylish, contemporary twists to classic looks (a simple, sleekly cut black suit is punched up with stacked silver jewelry; a graphic skirt adds panache to a solid-color sweater set; a pair of men’s khakis is driven out of dullsville with a black linen shirt).

Each page pictures an unfortunate “never cool” ensemble and beside it a “forever cool” rendition. Whether her stuck-in-a-fashion-rut real-life people are sporting sad accessories, underage looks, problem prints, or predictable pieces, Mathieson takes on all of them with kindhearted candor and breathes new life into their attire.

From work attire to special-occasion outfits for evening, the beach, the gym—even the ski slopes!—Sherrie Mathieson has fresh-looking fashion fixes for any boomer who is ready to ramp up his or her clothes savvy.

Some of the photographs in the book are hilarious showing the average american tourist with tucked in polo shirt and elastic topped pants heading out for the day.  Definitely not cool. I admire the way she persuaded people to dress up to look so bad.

Then, her subsequent book -Steal This Style: Moms and Daughters Swap Wardrobe Secrets: Looks That Make Hip Classic and Classic Cool  is described thus:  From costume designer and fashion stylist Mathieson comes a fresh, fun guide for mothers on looking modern and hip, and for daughters on looking cool and classic--achieved by swapping styles and borrowing from each other's closets. 180 full-color photos.

However, not all the reviewers agree with Sherrie as she seems to have a thing against pink and as the reveiwer says, plenty of older women look fantastic in pink.

Then I had another laugh as I researched chic at 60 hairstyles - check this one out, http://your-hairstyles.com/chic-over-60-hair-styles.html.  I wasn't sure if it was for real then I realised it is someone's point of view.
