Surprising Insights from Such a Fun Day

The Vision Board Day Experience - Rae

vision_me_1.JPGI can honestly say I haven't had as much fun since I went to a pre-enrollment day before starting primary school eons ago, when I was allowed to simply play with anything and everything with carefree abandon. I had all the black blocks stored in my corner as I was utterly fascinated by their shapes and sizes.  Funny I didn't even remember that day until I went to Suzanne Masefield of Think Success's Vision Board Day.

Initially I went in support of the website as Suzanne had run a promo and the lucky winner, Fran, had told me delightedly she was going to attend by ferrying and busing from Waiheke.

I set off for the day with a girlfriend, a scantily read prep sheet, a canvas and my scissors thinking this will be a fairly ordered process.  I imagined we would have a planned, organised day putting together, in a pictorial format, our plans for the coming year. If we had any. That wasn't quite how it turned out however.

We started with the usual self introductions and a synopsis of what we wanted to achieve from the day.  As a group of mature women with obviously fairly busy lives, some were looking to reinforce what they had already set in place but the majority were looking to discover their passion or purpose to take them through the next couple of decades.  Hmm, I thought, "that's a very big call for a one day workshop".  I simply couldn't see how one could fill such a tall order in one day.

After a few explanatory and sometimes very inspirational videos, it had all become a bit much so we stopped for an unscheduled coffee break.  Obviously needing a caffeine fix to get the creative juices rolling.

Suddenly the penny dropped as we realised there are many segments to our lives and it was okay to work on all or some. Then silence descended and the energy in the room increased as we all  set about finding what attracted us in the way of pictures and texts cut at random out of magazines.

I started off thinking about reality.  Where I was at the present and what my tangible goals were.  Then as the day wore on, I dropped reality and started to move more towards 'what if' and added in the dreams.  Think like a child I told myself.  When you ask a child what they want to be when they grow up they say all sorts of fantastic things as they have no boundaries.  Their dreams are reality.  So what happens as we get older?  We forget to dream.  Then I remembered reading the testimonials of previous attendees talking about resurrecting their personal dreams - one such lady - Kim had written:

“Loved the day... a time to stop & reflect... really important for me to set aside a specific time to do this…to focus on ‘what do I really want out of my life’ & a time to dream what is really possible in my life. Very exciting …it’s great not to have to worry about the “how” but to just focus on the “what” you want. It’s very liberating. You can feel the sparks fly as ideas swamp your imagination & you realise how much is really possible. Great”.

At this stage, about 3 hours into the day with only two to go, the various boards were at totally different stages.  Some covered and others with just a few smatterings of randomly placed cutouts.  My friend beside me was vacillating between making piles and looking like a possum in the headlights.  Then she started and the colours fairly flew onto the board.  Accompanied by beautiful stars.  Red for money and blue for the spirit.

My reality morphed into feelings as I started to get over myself and my rigidity and just threw open the vision board fiona.jpgfloodgates.  All our boards then took shape in the last hour.  And not one of them was even remotely similar. Fiona (the competition winner) and her board on the right.

Talking later to participants, they seem to have similar experiences over the following weeks.  The law of attraction comes into play and items or thoughts placed on the boards materialise in strange ways.  Just hope the big fat cheque in the wealth corner shows itself soon.  But in the meantime the 'shape up' words have lead me to a gym that I am getting very interested in - and I hate gyms so what am I doing there I ask?

Reading Suzanne's words to us after the event proved she already knew the possible outcomes:

The wonderful energy that you all created with your openness and willingness to step outside your comfort zone to experience a new way of being in your life was fantastic and I acknowledge you all for allowing yourselves to be open to receiving the abundance that is possible once you let go and get yourself out of the way,  freeing up the space for the new to come in – ‘Magic’ truly does happen. - Suzanne Masefield - Think Success

Suzanne Masefield says ...
Lovely to be part of your journey Raewyn, it was a joy to have you on the Vision board day and I have had very positive and uplifting responses from the other ladies.

I will probably run another Visionboard Day in May depending on numbers for anyone who is interested to reconnect with themselves, uncover and anchor their dreams.
Best Wishes
