Affordable Ways to Dress French

by Rae
A recent article by Karen Klopp on more.com, detailing what to take to Paris if travelling there for Bastille Day rang a bell with me,Rae, as the French team arrived for the Rugby World Cup.  Being a great fan of Ines de La Fressange, I am always searching the internet for affordable ways to reflect her style and that of countless French women who always dress so effortlessly with small investments.

Following are a few looks I have seen on the net,and sometimes purchased, or recently advertised in the new spring collections. Following the colours of the French Flag it makes mixing and matching very simple and inexpensive.

Your wardrobe should start with a good pair of white jeans.  They should have enough stretch to be comfortable and enough denim to be flattering to your derrière, says Karen. These are sooo comfortable and on sale in all sorts of sizes. I have bought them and if you don't like boot cut, have them taken in.  NZ$99.74 at shopbop.com

Any other great ideas on where to buy great staples at affordable prices?:

Loved article and suggest to the people who said it was not helpful to people over 50, that it's NOT about age it's all about how to wear and use the suggestions. for example a woman's shoulders are beautiful at any age.

nice to dream!
However these clothing options would suit a 30 something much better than the average over 50 year old! my figure is not the taut trim one it was before children and grandchildren and frankly these clothes would be laughable if I was stupid enough to wear them. Good for those who are still lovely and slender! How about 'age appropriate' suggestions?

I doubt that many women over 50 would suit the clothes featured above. What about showing us clothes that would suit figures that aren't what they used to be!

The idea of wearing a pair of white jeans like the ones in the picture with they navy striped tee shirt appeals, but in reality it does not work for the over fifties unless they have the perfect body, and lets face it, we don't all. I think for us real women the look needs a bit of tweeking, the jeans need to be really well cut white trousers which sit higher around the waist, and the tee needs to be not quite so tight fitting with a little longer sleeves which cover the top of the arms. Then match it with the large tote, the neutral watch and the ballet shoes - terrific

Oh dear. I know what you mean about this dress not suiting the 50 plus. I just couldn't help but dream that it might look good somewhere, somehow. Shouldn't have included it but at that price it could hang in the wardrobe for fun maybe. Or could be given away to a waif like grand-daughter.

Hi, best to wear this dress with leggings when older, flat shoes and maybe a long line cardigan for the chill at night

Lovely list of gorgeous items..but just wondering how a skin tight off the shoulder stripe dress can look great on the over-50 woman as promoted on wisanow? wonderful for the 16 yr old but not sure it should be on this list ;)
