Accessory Event - Dressing with the X-FactorAccessory Event - Dressing with the X-Factor plus Great Hair, Best FoundationWhat struck me was, since the inception of this website, just how many intelligent, capable women I had met who were running their own specialised businesses which they were either very good at or had started as a result of an interest or passion. Proof indeed that you can follow your dream at any age. Obviously our stylist Lynda was working at her passion, another woman had started a Parisian style cafe in her 60's, Auckland's newest nail boutique was begun with a dream, an accountant was working through how she could improve women's lives by protecting their assets and a new quality fashion boutique has just opened on a dream. In fact so many women there had recently started new businesses as a realisation of what they were good at. A recipe for great night - feedback: "Hello Raewyn, It was great – met some very interesting people And on to the format... First of all Lynda stated -:"there are no rules for accessorising or dressing - it depends on the individual ", and proceeded to demonstrate how on one of the women she has styled over the past year, the different pieces purchased to define and enhance this woman's height, style and colouring. How by adding one special piece, the X-Factor emerged to bring both the existing outfit and the woman's colouring alive. The length of a particular piece of jewellery made such a difference as did the gorgeous fur wrap. And all the pieces had been purchased on a reasonable budget. What Lynda really demonstrated was that the clothes and accessories should enhance the wearer and not be the main focal point of an outfit. A much more holistic approach where every item can be worn with other pieces which makes dressing so easy. And of course, out of this emerged what the stylist does best. Helps one refine one's wardrobe into items that work with many other pieces always to form a backdrop to a particular woman's style and personality. Therefore the only pieces that should remain after a wardrobe makeover are those that truly work and are wearable all the time. Not just sitting in the wardrobe for 5 years for a 'just in case occasion', or as a memento of a night or occasion way back when. And, real thought should go into new purchases only to fill gaps in the wardrobe or for a special event. And, maybe the odd investment piece to be worn regularly over the next five years.
