New Hope for Winter WaistlinesNew research reveals hope for winter waistlinesResveratrol, a natural compound found in grapes, is increasingly being used in health supplements after a series of studies have linked this antioxidant to supporting healthy cholesterol levels and cell rejuvenation. One of the latest studies from the University of País Vasco in Valencia found that resveratrol may support weight management by supporting healthy fat metabolism. The study found that when lab animals were supplemented with resveratrol and given a high-fat diet, they had less body fat than non-supplemented animals, even though both groups had similar body weights. Clinicians technical consultant and registered pharmacist, Debora-Dale Young says that there are a number of benefits of resveratrol. “Previous studies have shown resveratrol may have benefits for anti-aging, supporting heart health, brain health, immune support, muscle and joint mobility and energy levels.” Newer resveratrol supplements, such as Clinicians’ Resveratrol Performance Plus, also include an added antioxidant, quercetin, to aid absorption and, in effect, deliver a higher dosage. Quercetin is an antioxidant that is part of a group of plant pigments called flavonoids which help give fruits, flowers, and vegetables their colour. “Both resveratrol and quercertin are naturally found together in red wine and other foods. Using a dietary supplement with this natural identical combination enhances the absorption and action of both antioxidants in the body. They deliver the health benefits of low to moderate wine consumption without the alcohol, excess calories or sulphite preservatives.” Dietary supplements are not a replacement for a balanced diet. Always read the label and use as directed. Use with a balanced diet and exercise. If symptoms persist see your health professional. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Do not take resveratrol with warfarin or blood-thinning medications without medical advice. |
