What do you know now?

overheard on Style Goes Strong in interviews with Cindy Pearlman:

Diane Keaton and other celebrities share what they know now that they didn't know in their 20's and 30's.

DIANE KEATON, screen icon and author
Diane Keaton
"There was a time in my life when I was younger where the days seemed just endless. Now, I'm busy but I appreciate all of it. I don't take a moment of it for granted. because there aren't enough hours in the day. I don't want to slow down. Everyday something is happening and that's exciting — and that should be honored and appreciated. It can't be overlooked. What I also know now is not to worry about the little things. It's waking up each day with a great outlook because the good will outweigh the bad.

"I have amazing kids and  I don't want to waste a moment complaining about what really doesn't matter. Life is just too precious to let the little things bog you down."

ANJELICA HUSTON, actress, "50/50":

"I think as we age, we want to sometimes cover it all up and retire. But sometimes you have to kick yourself in the butt and say, 'Come on! Get out there!'

"I don't think you want life to just be the same old, same old. You don't want it to be old hat. I still want to feel my nerves sizzling. For instance, I just started on a new series called 'Smash' about Broadway and it's filmed in NYC. I moved from California to New York and I'll be in a brand new city for six or seven months of the year now.

"I've been living in California for the past 30 years. I took my dogs and moved into an apartment in New York. I can't believe that I moved cross country! Life is changing very fast for me now, but at the same time it's not a bad thing. All my friends are saying it's good. Yes, it's scary, but what I know now that I didn't know when I was younger is that change is not a bad thing. It's new and it's good. You embrace your fears and you just do it.

"Yes, it's taking me a little while to get used to this new life, but that's exciting. I look at my dogs who are loving the parks and the new smells. I'm taking some cues from them. It's about exploration!"

"What I know now is you don't have to be so trepidatious about everything. Sure, I still have big moments of panic. But I work through it and come out on the other side because I want to see the surprises life has in store for me."

"Yes, I'm nervous when I begin a new job. But I've learned that even though something is scary, you put yourself out there and take chances.

I've also learned you can't give up on things because you feel creeky. That's a day-to day confrontation, but you still choose to be brave and you still choose to put yourself out there."

LUCY LIU, star of the TNT series "Southland"

"I think what I know now that I didn't know in my '20s is that you can create your own traditions. That's especially important during this time of the year. I've learned that it's fine if you don't have any strong family traditions that hold up for you in later years. You can just start your own.

"I'll say, 'On Christmas, we're going to hike and see a movie and play backgammon.' You can decorate your own house. You can eat your own food. The point is I've learned that you're not beholden to anyone's traditions. You can do what you want to do. That's true maturity."

ANGELINA JOLIE, A-lister, director of the upcoming "In the Land of Blood and Honey" and mother of six.

"What I know now is you must be fearless in life. When I was younger, I would get very, very nervous. But I had a great mother who loved me for my flaws and my attempts.

"I was raised by a very strong woman who taught me a lesson I learned later in life. So what I know now is that there is more danger in not speaking up in life and not being who you are and standing up to injustice.

"What I know now is if you stay silent, it's the absolute worst thing you could ever do. Even if it's scary, you must do what you feel compelled to do in life."

STEVEN SPIELBERG, Legendary director of "War Horse" and "Tintin"...and the guy who gave us "Jaws" and "E.T."

"I know that it helps in life to have shpillkes.

"In other words, I know now that your nerves keep you human. I'm someone who still struggles with doubt - and I know this is fine. When I make a movie, I sweat everything. I sweat the script. I sweat the cut. I sweat the box office reception. What I know now is that's great.

"You can never rest on your laurels. Let me make it clear that I sweat much more making a movie than I ever do on that treadmill I keep in another room."

"I also know that my kids keep me young and hip. Without my kids, I'd be a real…."

"I should say, I wouldn't be as current.

"My kids come to me with music or tell me I must watch something they've seen on TV. I'd never watch some of these things without their guidance. They also talk to me about new ways of turning the English language.

Or should I say new ways of corrupting the English language. So you should listen to your kids."

What do you know now that you didn't in your 20's and 30's- is it similar to the statements above:
liane says ...
1) 'Keeping in touch' ...to 'live the second youth'!
2) 'Nothing is permanent' ...especially relationships, a window slams shut in your face another will open! We are individuals with our own special journey!
3) 'Little drops of water maketh the ocean' ...like the fat that becomes a bulge before you can can say 'eh tu, Brutus'.
