Why Pay Attention To Dreams?

Are dreams the domain of children and the whimsical only? These mysteries of the night are surely not the realm of those who achieve, change agents, the people who make a difference in this world?

The only way to really know is for us to take a look at the history of dreams and to study the importance and respect that some societies have, and still give dreams.

Thomas Edison the inventor of the light bulb ( and much more ), was said to keep a cot/bed in his laboratory. For what reason? Perhaps he was given to poor sleep and poor work habits? But no. Thomas Edison placed his cot in his work place so that when he was stuck in the development of an invention he could take a nap. He believed and more importantly had learned that dreaming about his projects often gave him a new insight which he understood could always lead to a breakthrough.

Anyone who has tried to develop something entirely new will know how extraordinarily difficult it can be to push through the many problems that come up during the process. Thomas Edison was not the only one who believed dreams helped during times of difficulty.

Another famous dreamer was Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln actually dreamed the details of his own assassination, ( which for reasons only known to him he choose to ignore). It is especially strange that he ignored this dream as he had had  a long history of being assisted by dreams over the period of his greatest challenges, and times of extreme stress. In fact he had come to rely on dreams to help him make the kind of decisions  that only a leader at war is required to make.

Dr. Thomas Barnardo was one person that certainly listened and acted on his dreams. Now known in history as a world changer, Dr. Barnardo received a dream that became a blueprint for establishing a girls village. This dream was a major breakthrough to his  on going problem of how to house hundreds of homeless girls after already establishing homes for  boys. Having this dream enabled Barnardo to solve a huge problem in his nation.

It is interesting to note that the less conscious state of dreams can be a vehicle to access a realm of decision making and problem solving that has real and lasting impact in our daily lives. Yet strangely we are advised that, " It was just a dream, don't pay it any attention."

Dreams are they sent to help us? Dreams, are they our subconscious intelligence finding answers to our problems? Are they a message from God?

People everywhere are having dreams. Are you searching for a meaning to a dream? Maybe you dreamed that your teeth are falling out, or in your dream you are flying, or back in a childhood house?

As we start to take notice, appreciate and understand the meaning of dreams we can discover keys to solving problems that we are faced with, find a direction we are hoping for, or may be discover a blueprint for a new business.
