Articles by Lindsey:
Legacy is all about the future

lindsey_dawson.jpgLindsey's recently added to her string of seven previously published books with a short but powerful guide to writing about your own life. Why are people drawn to do that ? Because, she says, "We're all a bit like an egg – bland on the outside but bursting with richness inside the shell."

She believes all our stories deserve to be recorded because while we may think we are just ordinary, it’s not true. "People write for different reasons. Some want to reflect on memories for purely personal satisfaction and to get clarity on who they are and where they've come from. Others are keen to begin a history that can become a family heirloom. And it's not hard to do." The book and her workshop share lots of tips and hints on how to get going, where to get inspiration and how to make your words shine.

She has created and edited three major women's titles in her career - More, Next and Grace - and has been on judging panels for national book and magazine awards. Other experience includes stints as talkback host and newspaper reporter, National Radio commentator and book reviewer, and a member of the Broadcasting Standards Authority. She speaks professionally about 'word power', blogs at http://outlouder.blogspot.com, and writes a internet column called Webmistress for Next magazine.

Lindsey received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 from the Magazine Publishers Association. She was also shortlisted for the 2009 Manhire Prize for Creative Science Writing Award.

She is currently hosting 'Let's Talk',  screened Friday evenings at 7pm for Triangle/Stratos TV in Auckland, re-screened nationally at 8pm Sundays on Stratos, Sky channel 89 and Freeview 21 (plus 1pm Mondays). A weekly television Current Affairs series made by women, for women, Let's Talk is a mixture of panel discussions, a ‘celebrity guest’ interview and our weekly book review with Carole Beu from the Womens’ Bookshop. An informal, warm and chatty show – with lots of great women and their take on issues of the day. Raewyn and Geraldine from Wisanow are frequent guests on the panel.
